Ruff Honored

Jenni Ruff, a senior forward from Washington State University, has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Women’s Basketball player of the week for Dec. 4-10.

Ruff, who hails from Mossyrock, Wash., scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Cougars’ 69-66 win over Boise State Friday. Ruff hit 15-of-23 shots from the floor (.652) and added three assists and three steals to her ninth career double-double.

This week’s honor was the first in Ruff’s career and the sixth overall for Washington State.

Jason Smith’s layup with less than a minute to play gave the Trojans (2-1) a win over the Spartans (3-2) in a nonleague boys basketball game Monday night.

Rosalia rallied back from a 31-19 deficit in the final quarter, but could get no closer than the game’s final margin.
