School Will Repay Medicare Claims
The University of Pennsylvania agreed Tuesday to pay $30 million to settle allegations it submitted an estimated $10 million in false Medicare claims between 1989 and 1994.
The alleged overbilling occurred at Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania, a group of about 600 doctors and 19 medical practices. All the doctors are faculty members at the university’s medical school, one of the most prestigious in the nation.
Under the settlement, filed in federal court Tuesday, Clinical Practices and the doctors denied any wrongdoing.
