Schroeder Wants Waldholtz To Quit

Compiled From Wire Services

Rep. Enid Greene Waldholtz should consider resigning from Congress to take responsibility for financial wrongdoings she blames on her husband, Rep. Pat Schroeder said Tuesday.

“You may not give an election back,” Schroeder, D-Col., said, paraphrasing a statement Mrs. Waldholtz made in a 4-hour news conference Monday, “but I must say you can step down.”

Schroeder, the senior female lawmaker in the House, said she sympathized with Waldholtz, R-Utah, for having “been very hurt in love,” but added that claiming victimhood does not absolve one of responsibility.

Waldholtz claimed she was tricked by her estranged husband, Joe Waldholtz, who worked as her unpaid treasurer. He is being investigated on suspicion he embezzled tens of thousands of dollars of her campaign funds.
