Drunk Driver Found Guilty In 2 Deaths

A drunken driver was convicted Thursday for killing two people and injuring three others in an Aug. 22 accident on a rural road near Kettle Falls, Wash.

David R. Davis, 38, of Kettle Falls, was convicted of two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault.

Deputy Prosecutor David Soukup said the jury took just an hour and 15 minutes to find Davis guilty as charged - and eat lunch.

Davis failed to negotiate a curve on Mingo Mountain Road and plowed his Jeep into a family of three fishing at the edge of the road. His vehicle then careened 40 feet more and hit two boys on bicycles.

Testimony indicated he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17 percent. The legal limit for intoxication is 0.10.

Nancy Gillispie, 43, and her daughter, Jennifer, 15, were killed. Her son, John, 12, suffered head and hip fractures. Bicyclist Matthew Garrison, 15, had a broken hand. Charges were filed on behalf of all of them.

Davis is to be sentenced Jan. 26.
