Obituaries

Maybelle Green Spokane

No service will be held for Maybelle Green, 90, at her request. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Green, who died Dec. 10, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

She had worked as a cake decorator at various bakeries in Spokane.

There are no surviving family members.

William Rosholt Spokane

Service for William E. “Bill” Rosholt, 93, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Born in Sandpoint, Mr. Rosholt died Sunday.

When he was a teenager, he worked as a logger with his father on their North Idaho homestead. He later managed grocery stores in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Lewiston.

In 1927 he married Minnie Alberts.

He started his own grocery business in 1935 in a store on wheels that he moved to the present site of Coulee Dam. He parked it near the Seaton Ferry dock and called it The Biggest Little Store by a Dam Site.

In 1941 he and his family moved to Albany, Ore.

He moved to Spokane and opened a variety store on Division Street in 1948. He later worked for Metropolitan Mortgage and in real estate and insurance.

He was a charter member of Northeast Kiwanis Club, St. Paul’s Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years; one daughter, Anna Mae Hogan of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alderwood Manor or St. Paul’s Methodist Church.

Roger Steen Spirit Lake, Idaho

Graveside service for Roger Arnold Steen, 63, will be today at 11 a.m. at the McArthur Cemetery in Naples, Idaho. Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Steen, who was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, died Monday.

He was raised and educated in Spokane and graduated from high school there.

He later served with the Indian Head Division of the Army during the Korean Conflict and fought at Pork Chop Hill.

He logged near Naples, worked construction in Spokane and moved to Spirit Lake in 1987.

Mr. Steen enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, John of Spirit Lake; three brothers, Alvin of Sandpoint, Gordon of Seattle and David of Greenacres; six sisters, Esther Bratten of Everett, Alice Merz of Odessa, Wash., Arlene Helsing of Cheney, Edith Poquette and Inez Derington, both of Spokane, and Eveliend Reeve of Liberty Lake; and one grandson.

Norman McLain Fairfield

Graveside service for Norman McLain, 83, is set for 1:30 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McLain, who died Dec. 10, was born in Reardan, Wash.

He was a farm equipment mechanic.

Mr. McLain is survived by his former wife of 35 years, Audry Flaig of Spokane; one daughter, Gayle Wilkerson of Spokane; one son, Scott McLain of Sequim, Wash.; two brothers, Ralph McLain of Spokane and Dale McLain of Post Falls; one sister, Laurel Cromar of Sunnyside, Wash.; two granddaughters and one stepgrandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Alzheimer’s Foundation or Tekoa Care Center.

James Willis Spokane

Memorial service for R. James Willis, 56, will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Willis died Wednesday from cancer.

He was born in Longview, Wash.

He graduated from Bremerton High School and served in the Marine Corps for two years.

He married in 1960.

He began selling life insurance in 1962 and worked in Seattle, Kalispell, Mont., and Spokane. He retired after 33 years.

He was a member of the Jaycees, Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. He taught in the insurance field and conducted social style awareness seminars. He was also a member of Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Arminta; two daughters, Jodi Trudeau of Portland and Tobyann Willis-Camp of Vancouver, British Columbia; one son, Les Willis of Port Orchard, Wash.; his mother, Billie Hanshaw of Bremerton; three sisters, Diane Aasness of John Day, Ore., Rachel Mortenson of Port Orchard, Wash., and Susie Hanshaw of Bremerton; one brother, John Willis of Bremerton; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Unit at Rockwood Clinic or Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church building fund.

Larry Thulon Spokane

Service for Larry W. Thulon, 52, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Thulon, who died Monday, was a lifetime Spokane resident. He was a truck driver.

He is survived by one daughter, Christine Ford of Reardan, Wash.; two sons, Kevin Thulon of Otis Orchards and Tom Thulon of Spokane; one sister, Lavonnie Grimmett of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Eugene ‘Geno’ Guercio Spokane

Service for Eugene “Geno” Guercio, 56, will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel with burial to follow. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Guercio, who was born in Italy, died Dec. 8.

He had lived in Spokane since 1954, and was a handyman and maintenance man.

He is survived by his mother Janetta Guercio of Loon Lake, Wash.; one brother, Joe Guercio of Sandpoint; and three sisters, Carmella Difazio of Spokane, Rosa White of Loon Lake and Lina Brunetto of Reardan, Wash.

Roy Johnson Jr. Spokane

Service for Roy H. Johnson Jr., 76, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Born in Tacoma, Mr. Johnson died Tuesday.

He had lived in Spokane since he was an infant and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

He worked as an electrician for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Farragut Naval Station, Fort George Wright, Hanford Nuclear Reservation and Geiger Field during World War II.

He was an electrical contractor and operated Pacific Electric with his brother, Ronald, in Spokane from 1950 to 1980. He retired in 1980 and worked for 15 years for other electrical contractors.

He was a member of the Manito Masonic Lodge, the Spokane Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies, the El Katif Shrine Temple, the El Katif Mobilier and the El Katif Shrine Arab Foot Patrol.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marguerite Johnson; three daughters, Madeline Martin of Pullman, and Carol Irion and Nancy Campbell, both of Spokane; two sons, Richard and Robert Johnson, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ronald Johnson of Post Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

Nora Gilmore Spokane

Service for Nora (Anderson) Gilmore, 92, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gilmore died Tuesday.

She was born in California, Mo.

In 1924 she married Finis Gilmore. They moved to Washington in 1943 and settled in Spokane in 1956. She was a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1963.

Mrs. Gilmore is survived by two daughters, Margaret Marlett of Vancouver, Wash., and Diane Williams of Richmond, Ky.; two sons, Robert Gilmore of Cerritos, Calif., and Kenneth Gilmore of Spokane; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Walter Erbeznik Valley, Wash.

Vigil service for Walter J. Erbeznik, 80, is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Chewelah (Wash.) Catholic Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Erbeznik, who was born in Valley, died Sunday.

He was a farmer and raised cattle.

He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Ann Wells of Okanogan, Wash., and Hilda Salokar of Spokane.

Floyce Paulson Spokane

Memorial inurnment for Floyce C. Paulson, 94, will be held in the spring. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Big Lake, Minn., Mrs. Paulson died Tuesday.

She had worked as a legal secretary for District Court Judge Charles Powell and had lived in Spokane for 25 years.

Her husband, Emil Paulson, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Paulson is survived by two nieces, Yvonne Cronquist of Gilby, N.D., and Floyce Cummings of Valley City, N.D.; and one nephew, Lyle Smith of Big Lake, Minn.
