Cardinals Sign Gaetti
The St. Louis Cardinals addressed their infield power shortage by agreeing to a $2 million, one-year contract with third baseman Gary Gaetti.
Gaetti, 37, hit .261 with a career-high 35 home runs and had 96 RBIs last year for the Kansas City Royals.
The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to a $5.4 million, two-year contract for outfielder-first baseman Orlando Merced.
The left-handed hitting Merced is coming off his best major league season, batting .300 with 15 homers and 83 RBIs.
