During the holidays, even something as simple as bread becomes a beautifully crafted delight.

Spokane’s Cobblestone bakery offers three superb specimens: challah, a braided, traditional Jewish egg bread; stollen, a spiced Scandinavian bread with rum-soaked dried fruits, whole pecans and almonds; and a buttery, brandy-moistened fruitcake made with pecans, almonds, apricots, dates, cranberries, raisins and pineapple.

Price: Challah, $3.75; stollen, $5.95; fruitcake, $7.95 for small 16-ounce loaf, $12.95 for large 30-ounce loaf, $21.95 for round 48-ounce loaf with decorative tin.
