Cda Students Collect $1,040 For Charities

From Staff And Wire Reports

The annual penny drive at Coeur d’Alene High School brought in $1,040 over 15 days, said teacher Melody Melton, who organized the drive.

The students from 26 classes voted to split the money between two charities - the Wishing Star Foundation and the Kootenai Humane Society.

The penny drive is in its fourth year and dramatically out-paced last year’s drive, which raised about $300.

At the same time students were collecting pennies, students from all schools were collecting food for the food bank. After all the food was weighed, over 31,000 pounds of food was collected districtwide.

By Wednesday afternoon, Lake City High collected more than 12,949 pounds and Coeur d’Alene High collected 8,591 pounds. , DataTimes
