Pacificorp Closing 96 Service Centers

Compiled From Wire Services

PacifiCorp will restructure its customer service operations in 1996, closing 96 offices or service counters and cutting about 250 jobs in the seven Western states it serves.

The utility will replace its local customer service operations with regional business centers, probably in Portland and Salt Lake City.

“You just can’t be a 9-to-5 utility any more,” said Erin MacClellan, spokeswoman for Pacific Power, one of the utilities PacifiCorp operates.

PacifiCorp is the holding company for both Pacific Power & Light and Utah Power & Light, which serve residents of Oregon, Washington, Northern California, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.

Portland-based PacifiCorp will close 34 local customer service offices by the end of March. The remainder will close by November.
