Better Make Plans Now For New Year’s Eve

The year’s winding down, which means it’s not too early to start planning for New Year’s Eve festivities.

If you’ve been stressed by the chaos that surrounds the Christmas holiday - shopping, relatives, gift complaints - it might be a good idea to make a getaway on New Year’s Eve to one of the area’s hotels.

But you’d better hurry and make reservations soon; rooms are being booked quickly.

Following are some of the packages for which reservations are recommended:

Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park offers a $195 package for couples.

Included is a Main Wing room for two, dining in the ballroom at 7 p.m., cocktail hour at 6 p.m., entertainment by comedian Dave Fulton, dancing to Junior Cadillac, champagne and party favors at midnight.

An upgrade package to accommodations in the Parkside Tower or Executive Wing is $215.

The package at Cavanaugh’s River Inn features overnight lodging for two, dinner in the Shoreline Room, dancing to Mumbo Jumbo - a rhythm and blues band - at 9:30 p.m. and a bubbly toast at the strike of midnight.

Guests at the Red Lion City Center, formerly the Sheraton, can ring in the new year with one of two packages.

The first, which costs $149, has accommodations for two and dining and dancing in the Grand Ballroom. The dinner will be a buffet. Entertainment will be provided by the Ron Lloyd Band.

Package No. 2 features an overnight stay for two, admittance to JJ’s Lounge and champagne and party favors at midnight. The cost for this package is $109.

The Shilo Inn has a variety of packages for couples.

The first one covers a room for two, a roast prime rib dinner, dancing to the music of Finesse, a bottle of champagne or sparkling apple cider and party favors. The price is $140.

The second package is exactly the same as the first except it’s designed for four people. So everything but the price doubles. Included is a room for four. The price is $255.

For those who want the dinner, dancing and champagne package, the cost is $90.

Finally, there’s a $25 package for just dancing and champagne.

Best Western Templin’s Resort in Post Falls again provides quite a generous package for couples this holiday.

It includes: accommodations, dinner for two in Mallard’s, a champagne toast, party favors, two complimentary cocktails and a New Year’s Day brunch.

The Robeys will be playing in the lounge upstairs and Loose Change will perform downstairs.

Cost of the package with a standard room is $169.50. A room with a view of the river is $184.50. Call (800) 283-6754.

You have two options at the Ridpath Hotel.

The first is the Winter Bed and Breakfast package for just $69. This package comes with a single or double-occupancy deluxe room and $15 credit toward breakfast.

The Night on the Town package costs $125 and features dinner for two in Ankeny’s, $15 credit toward breakfast and valet parking.

New Year’s Eve couples packages at The Coeur d’Alene Resort are going fast.

The first, the Convention Center Package, includes a buffet dinner in the Convention Center, overnight accommodations, champagne and party favors. Plus, guests can dance the night away to the country and ‘50s sounds of the Kearbeys in the Convention Center or the rock music of Manito Park in the Shore Lounge.

The price is $222 for standard economy rooms and $255 for medium accommodations.

The Beverly’s Package features a six-course dinner in Beverly’s and music by jazz musician Robert Vaughn. You can access the other entertainment, too.

Medium accommodations for this package run $320 per couple. Deluxe accommodations in the Lake Tower or the city mountain view are $350 a couple. A lake view, deluxe accommodations room is $440.

The Ramada Inn at the airport presents three packages this New Year’s.

The first, for $149, features an overnight stay for two, a prime rib, salmon and shrimp buffet, dancing to local country sensation Barry Lee White and the Moonshine Band, a bottle of champagne, party favors and a toast of bubbly at midnight.

The second, for $99, includes all of the first package offerings except the dinner.

If you just want to go for the dinner and dancing, the price is $80.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort is all booked up for the holiday. But its parties aren’t sold out yet.

Point Blank will play in Taps, located in the Day Lodge. Cost is $25 per person. Admission includes champagne, party favors and hors d’oeuvres. Doors open at 8:45 p.m.

In St. Bernard’s, the resort will ring in the new year with a Mexican fiesta. Motion will entertain. Cost is $25 per person, which includes hors d’oeuvres, champagne and party favors.

The Holiday Inn in Coeur d’Alene has quite an economical New Year’s package for couples. It includes deluxe accommodations, a prime rib dinner, two passes to Foxies - where AM-FM will be playing - a bottle of bubbly, a champagne toast at the strike of 12 and late checkout.

The price is $99.50. Stay another night for an additional $49.

At the Red Lion Inn in the Spokane Valley, the special New Year’s Eve package features deluxe accommodations for two, a gourmet buffet dinner, a bottle of bubbly, dancing to Men in the Making, party favors and a New Year’s Day brunch in the ballroom. Checkout isn’t until 5 p.m.

The package runs $189. To make reservations, call 924-9000.

The Friendship Inn/ Spokane House offers a New Year’s Eve package that includes accommodations, dining room reservations (but not the cost of dinner), passes to a party in the lounge, party favors and a glass of champagne at midnight. The cost is $50 per couple.

The second package features dinner reservations, passes to the lounge party, party favors and champagne. This one costs $25 per couple and $12 per single.

Featured on the dinner menu are halibut, steak, prime rib, prawns and chicken.
