Cynthia Davidson Wins Horatio Alger Award

Cynthia Davidson, Lake City High School senior, recently received the Horatio Alger National Scholar award for this year. She will receive a $5,000 scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., in April to attend the National Scholars Conference.

Davidson was chosen for demonstrating outstanding self-reliance, individual integrity and initiative, academic achievement, leadership in school activities and a commitment to public service. The conference will deal with the free enterprise system and civic education.

Other finalists for the award were Aaron Anderson and Jaime Kroll. Junior winner Lindsay Taggart received a $5,000 savings bond as the winner of the Horatio Alger Louis Feinstein Award.

Bob Thomas, Post Falls, received First place and Best of Show for his photograph, “Palouse Grain Field,” in national competition sponsored by the National Grange in Harrisburg, Pa.

Another photo by Thomas, “Red Fish Lake,” received top honors from the organization in 1991. Both awards began at the North Idaho Fair, moving on to the state level and then to the national competition.

Thomas is a member of the Mica Flats Grange and the Coeur d’Alene Camera Club.

The following students were selected as Students of the Month at Lakeland Junior High School: Elizabeth Dallenbach, ninth grade; Melissa Montague, eighth grade; and Rosie Radavich, seventh grade.

Students are chosen based on their outstanding citizenship, good attitudes, extracurricular activities, school spirit and strong academics.

Dallenbach is the daughter of Barry and Suzie Dallenbach of Rathdrum. Montague is the daughter of Ron and Cora Montague of Post Falls, and Radavich is the daughter of Jay and Cindy Radavich of Post Falls.

Scott Briscoe has been named Templin’s Best Western Resort’s Employee of the Month for December.

He has been an employee at the resort since March of 1993 as a bartender.

Briscoe was chosen by his peers because he is dependable, volunteers help when needed, is personable with guests, has a positive attitude, likes to listen to guests and co-workers and has a positive work performance.
