Political Wrangling Hurts Dollar
As Washington continued to dither over the federal budget, the dollar continued to waiver in foreign exchange markets before finishing lower against leading currencies Thursday.
The currency started the day stronger as hopes rose for a restart of the stalled budget negotiations. When no firm strategy emerged to get the talks started again, the currency weakened.
In late New York trading Thursday, the dollar was quoted at 1.4377 German marks, down from 1.4400 late Wednesday.
