Jockey In Stable Condition

Compiled From Wire Services

Jockey Nick Santagata was in stable but guarded condition at North Shore University Hospital, a day after he suffered six broken ribs and a fractured sternum in a three-horse spill at Aqueduct.

Santagata was believed to be out of danger, but in any case involving chest or rib injuries, there is a possibility of pneumonia.

The jockey was hurt when his mount, Time for Another, fell entering the stretch in Friday’s first race, a 6-furlong maiden sprint for fillies and mares. Two other horses, Calais and Gray Dawn Pixie, fell over Time for Another and their riders, Rafael Mojica and Filiberto Leon, were shaken up but received only minor injuries. Time for Another was destroyed on the track.
