Christmas Fund 1995 Mother’s Gift On Behalf Of Baby Recalls Memory Of Felicia Reese

Some letters accompanying gifts to The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund can really tug at your heart.

Michaela Reiko Felicia Marinos’ mother wrote on behalf of the baby girl: “Here is $25 in memory of Felicia Reese for whom I carry her name in mine. I am only 9 months old, but Felicia’s prayers for my life are why my family has me to love and play with today! Her love will live on! Merry Christmas.”

Giving gifts of $50 were Chris and Gary; the Eve A. Westwood Trust; Michael Fernandez, N. 5944 Moore; the Caldwells of Caldwell Concrete, Veradale, who wrote, “We hope this can help to make a brighter Christmas for the less fortunate”; Fred and Nancy Soukup; and employees of Inland Pacific Sign & Stamp, 215 W. Second, in the names of their bosses, Ned Rumpeltes and Dennis Wright.

Other $50 gifts came from James P. Lucas, Cheney, in memory of Peter Presta; Peggy Dolan, 315 E. 16th; Hayes Logging, Elk; Mike and Regina Clausen, Rosalia; Paul Malen and Christy Kerrick-Malen, Liberty Lake; Dale and Margaret Soden, 1012 W. 28th; the Lazo family; and J&L Book Co. Inc, 124 W. Sinto.

Kirsten M. Melgard, 2009 W. Pacific, gave $50, as did Thomas and Laurel Bender, 10015 N. Fleetwood; Robert and Catherine Oviatt, 933 E. 17th; CLSC-E Social Fund; James and Salli Sledge, 5110 E. Glennaire; Bev Chandler, 9609 N. Wieber; employees of Kaman Industrial Technologies, 4115 E. Trent; and Kustom Upholstery, 14 W. Main.

Other $50 donations came from John and Mark Steinman, 1727 Koren; Mr. and Mrs. Russell L. Moad, 15207 N. Gleneden; Mr and Mrs. Russell Rogers, 2429 S. Waterford Drive; Mary Kay Eddy, Spokane; David and Sandra Sauer; Helen Husen and Lennie Andrews, 604 S. Thor; the Provost family, “in loving memory of Jeremy Michaels and Jeff Guenther”; and Maellen and Leota King.

John and Bobby Seipp, 502 W. Kiernan, gave $50 with: “Thanks for giving us the opportunity to put a little warmth in someone’s heart and tummy”; also giving $50 were Tim and LaRayne Conley; Duncan Thrasher, 103 W. 14th; Dennis Young, 1928 E. 11th; Bob and Connie Forkner, 3311 Challis Ct.; and Jack, Monica, Jonathan and Matthew Anderson, Vancouver, Wash., on behalf of Madeline Kardong.

There were 10 anonymous $50 gifts.

The Colonial Bowl Senior Ladies Classic gave $44; giving $40 was Sonya Trickler, who wrote, “This year, I thought this fund would be a wonderful way to give back some support to the community, and to say ‘thank you for all your support’ when my daughter Angela suffered burns last spring! May this bring someone a special Christmas.”

Also giving $40 were Richard and Dolores J. Solberg; Annie Emery and Liz Huntington; Sarah and Ben Neeri, 9802 N. Farmdale. Jean, Margaret, Ruth, Virginia, Fern, Betty, Elizabeth, Lois, Clara, Bea, Rose, Mary Lee and Vivienne, “the Card Playing Cuties,” anted up $39.

Gifts of $35 came from Lisa Hather’s fifth-grade class at St. Thomas More School, with this note from their proud teacher: “They are the most wonderful and generous children”; and Michael and Jeri Nettles, 8121 E. Upriver Drive. Sue and John Osterback, 3719 S. Union Court, gave $25, and Katie, their 7-year-old daughter, donated $10.

Other $35 donations were from Paul and Alice Weis, 5106 S. Sunward Drive; William and D. Jean Arnold, 2614 S. Houk; Eileen Quorn; and James and Marjorie Teall, 7625 N. Whitehouse. Fred and Jacci Aronow, 1110 E. 43rd, gave $30 in the names of their grandchildren: Jaycob and Cassandra Enzler and Shelby MartensenWright, with: “They will have a very Merry Christmas and we hope these funds will brighten the day for some others whose Christmas isn’t so promising.”

Steve and Rebecca Elam, Post Falls, gave $30, as did an anonymous donor in memory of three Spokesman-Review elevator operators: Leora, Isobel and Amy.

Gifts of $25 came from Lyle Knutson, 8815 E. Lindgren; Dr. and Mrs. Robert S. Johnson, 1125 S. Bernard, in memory of Jerry Camp Sr.; Claude Hire and Marianne Iwasa, 3911 S. Crestline; Thomasin Harris, San Francisco; Kenneth and Alice Marie Hemmelman, 8805 N. Kinsington Drive; Peter and Charlotte Yocom, Cheney; and A. Barclay Klingel Jr. and Catherine Klingel, 112 W. High Drive.

Laura Slentz, 2207 E. Providence, gave $25, as did Roger Havercroft, 1213 E. Illinois; James and Lynette Slavicek, 5616 W. Woodside; George and Isabel Dieter, 1817 E. 34; and Steve Williams, with “My hope is that the people who are receiving this help, will in return help others.”

Laurie Hildreth gave $25 in memory of her grandmother Bernice Yeaples, who died Dec. 17 in Rochester, N.Y. Other $25 gifts came from Bob and Pam Kimbrough; Jean Johnson; M. Schab, Spangle, in memory of her brother, Richard N. Schab; Jerry and Judy Knowles; and Wynne O’Brien, 1623 S. Maple, for Alex.

Ronald and Mary Jo Schaefers, 3231 W. Boone, gave $25 as did Michael and Marion Fietek, Cheney; Sherwood and Kathleen Anderson, 6806 N. G; and seven anonymous givers, including “an old couple on Social Security who’ve had too much medical expenses this year to give what they’d like.”

Gifts of $20 came from Estelle Bailey, Opportunity, “in loving memory of Frances Bailey, who passed into feline heaven on her 15th birthday”; Deborah Schmidt, 4406 E. 39th; Ben and Susanne Miller, 707 E. Nora; and Mr. and Mrs. Calkins, 4520 S. St. Andrews Land, in memory of Jerry Camp Sr.

Patrick and Mary Savage, 1221 N. Elton Rd., gave $20, as did Eric, Deborah and Jessica Oman, 5131 N. G, with “It’s nice to have such a caring and giving community”; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Deroche, 2618 E. 27th; and Ray and Jean Entz, 5708 S. Spotted Road.

Will, 5, and Adam, 3, and their mom and dad gave $20 with a letter written by Will on a construction-paper Christmas tree: “I hope another 5 year old and 3 year old will get what they want for Christmas.” Good printing, Will. A $20 gift was also donated by Santa.

Lindsay and Melanie Fletcher gave $15 as did two anonymous donors.

Carolyn Aultman, Suncrest, donated earlier “in the memory of the Claypool girl, which made me feel so good that I made a promise to myself that if I had money left over after buying my family’s Christmas presents and monthly groceries, I would donate it to the fund.”

So, Aultman gave again, this time “in memory of little Rachel Carver and the four precious little babies who lost their lives in that tragic fire … This is my first year to do this, and what a feeling it is to give to such a cause.”

Other $10 gifts came from Philip and Diana Taylor in honor of their son’s kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Frankhauser - “because of her, he has become more aware of the needy, especially at Christmas”; R.E. and Janis C. Taylor, 4421 N. Evergreen; and Mrs. Alta Franz, Cheney. Laura and Patrick Holahan gave $5.86.
