Jordan pick of week

Michael Jordan, who helped the Chicago Bulls to 13 consecutive victories, won Player of the Week honors.

Jordan averaged 31.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, five assists and three steals last week as the Bulls won four games and ran their season record to 23-2, best start in the franchise’s 30-year history. He shot .538 on 49-for-91 from the field and .893 on 25-for-28 from the free throw line and is averaging a league-leading 30 points per game.

Kidd leads ballot

Jason Kidd, bidding to become the first Dallas player ever to start an NBA All-Star game, leads all Western Conference guards in balloting.

Kidd, who shared Rookie of the Year honors with Grant Hill of Detroit last season, has received 81,963 votes, just ahead of Houston’s Clyde Drexler, who has 79,926. Next among the guards is Utah’s John Stockton at 43,629.

Houston center Hakeem Olajuwon leads all vote-getters with 131,814, more than twice as many as San Antonio’s David Robinson.

At forward, the Western Conference leaders continue to be Charles Barkley of Phoenix with 105,291 and Shawn Kemp of Seattle with 81,104.
