Consecutive Aces Not So Rare After All

Associated Press

The feat of holes-in-one on consecutive shots by a pair of Reno, Nev., golfers last week apparently has been done before.

Two members of the Westlake, Calif., Golf Course men’s club made holes-in-one on consecutive shots in early 1995, according to a golf column in the Los Angeles Daily News.

John Tickner of Bell Canyon and Marty McHugh of Westlake Village used 5-woods in making holes-in-one on Westlake’s 171-yard second hole, the Daily News reported on Jan. 26, 1995.

Playing partners Lyle Reeves, Jim Bammer and Bob Heinzer witnessed the accomplishment of the previous week, the newspaper said.

The ace was Tickner’s third in a year’s time and it was McHugh’s fourth career hole-in-one.

John Legarza, 60, and Tom Gabelman, 59, made holes-in-one on consecutive shots at the Dayton, Nev., Valley Country Club last Thursday.

Gabelman, semi-retired from the oil business, said he scanned Golf Digest to see if the feat had ever occurred before, but found nothing. Tickner contacted the Associated Press on Tuesday to report otherwise.
