Conservation Groups Schedule Workshops

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two conservation groups are holding workshops in North Idaho to encourage citizens to lobby for protection of area streams and rivers.

Trout Unlimited and Idaho Rivers United are hosting the early January workshops because the Idaho Legislature will take action on two water plans. One will cover the Priest River basin and includes a proposal to protect three additional rivers.

The other plan covers the North Fork of the Clearwater and has a proposal to protect nine additional rivers.

The conservation groups also are trying to head off proposals to gut Idaho’s minimum stream flow law.

The first workshop is in Coeur d’Alene Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. There also is a workshop in Sandpoint Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at 915 Poplar St.

The third workshop is Jan. 11 in Lewiston at 7 p.m. at the Lewiston Community Center.
