Blaze Destroys 130 Stores In Korea Market

A fire raced through an indoor marketplace today, injuring four people and burning down at least 130 stores.

Some 150 firefighters and 200 more volunteers were trying to prevent the fire from spreading into other areas of Kwangmyung city’s central market, 25 miles southwest of Seoul.

Most of the 200 stores and restaurants had been closed for the New Year holidays, police said. All four of the injured, including 14-year-old Lee Kyung-sook, were in stable condition, they said.

It was not immediately clear how the fire started.
