Spokane bowling proprietor Gary Mage, a former Professional Bowlers Association tourist, tied for fourth on the first ballot of pro voting for the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame.

Mage, who owns Diamond Bowl and Valley Bowl, received 34 votes. It took 99 to make the Hall of Fame. There were eight pros on the ballot, but none received enough support to be elected to the shrine.

Rifle

Ryan Brownyer took second place to lead a 2-3-4 finish for the new Spokane Indians Junior Rifle Team in the prone class at the Washington State Junior Olympics .22 Target Rifle Indoor Championships contested in Spokane and Centralia.

Lesley Moerschel was third and Sean Skow fourth. Other finishes: Prone class-Craig Kingsbury, seventh; Mike Harper, eighth.

Gavin Peterson won the B+ class to lead the Cheney American Legion Junior Gun Club.

Other Cheney finishes: Masters-Hatti Ponti, fourth; Matt Miller, eighth; Expert-Rachael Westergren, third. A+-Tim Miller, eighth. Club team-Matt Miller, Ponti, Westergren, third.

Figure skating

The Europe-bound Spokane Stars and Stripes boys and girls hockey team will stage its second public skating session fund-raiser Jan. 7 from 7:15-9:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Park Ice Palace.

Proceeds from skate rental will go toward the Stars and Stripes’ expenses for their spring trip.
