Attacking Killer Bees Force Boy Off Cliff

Associated Press

The 14-year-old son of a missionary couple assigned to Panama died when a swarm of African killer bees drove him off a mountain cliff, the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board said Tuesday.

Andrew Nicholson, son of Glenn and Pauline Nicholson, was climbing in the Chame Mountains with a classmate during a camping trip Saturday when they were attacked.

The boys ran along a ridge to escape, but Nicholson, who was allergic to bee stings, stopped, swatted at the bees, lost his balance and fell nearly 100 feet, according to the classmate, Andrew Scoble, 16.

Scoble was in stable condition.
