Most Of Babies Don’t Wait For A Full Moon

Those who believe that babies are more likely to be born during a full moon would be better off betting on the time when the moon is a waning sliver in the sky.

Appalachian State University physicist David Caton expected to simply disprove the full-moon myth when he compared birth dates of 50 million babies with the lunar cycle. Instead, he found that births were most frequent during the moon’s third quarter.

Heart Month programs:

Two free programs about heart health are scheduled next week as part of the ongoing observance of Heart Month.

On Wednesday, a discussion of the relationship between stroke and such heart disorders as atrial fibrillation will be presented at 7 p.m. at Rockwood Clinic, E400 Fifth.

The program includes a cardiologist, Dr. Michael Hostetler; a neurologist, Dr. Scott Carlson, and dietitian Jennifer Duskey. Reservations are requested; call 459-1561.

And next Thursday, cardiologist Dr. Michael Hinnen and dietitian Sandy Zobell will be featured in “Come Celebrate a Healthier Heart” at 7 p.m. at the Deaconess Health and Education Center, W910 Fifth. For information, call 624-7770.

Health tests in Idaho:

Blood pressure and cholesterol tests and an analysis of lifestyle factors that increase health risks will be offered in Coeur d’Alene next Thursday and again on Feb. 23 at the Panhandle Health District, 2195 Ironwood Court.
