Sewer Line Blocked By Dead Moose

Compiled From Wire Services

William Keith couldn’t figure out what was plugging up his toilet until he found a moose blocking his sewer line.

“I assumed the line was blocked but I never thought it would be a moose,” he said Thursday.

When the line backed up last week, and he called to have the septic tank pumped. As an afterthought, he checked the lift station, a metal-covered hole where water from the septic tank collects before being pumped into the leach field.

In the 8-foot-deep hole, he discovered the carcass of a moose. The corrugated steel cover had split and the half-ton moose fell into the hole, just three-feet across.

The moose apparently died of injuries. The carcass was lifted out of the hole using a backhoe on Thursday.
