Mom Arrested After Boy Takes Gun To School

Compiled From Wire Services

The mother of a 5-year-old boy was arrested Friday after he showed up at his kindergarten class with a loaded semiautomatic handgun.

The boy’s teacher at Princeton Elementary School alerted school security after she saw him displaying the weapon to five friends at the back of his classroom.

Prince George’s County police arrived at the school in Camp Springs, a Washington suburb, and recovered the .380-caliber pistol. They said it was fully loaded.

Police said the child got the gun from a dresser drawer at home.

His mother faces a $1,000 fine. Authorities would not identify the woman or her son.
