Miller, Bauer Win Warm-Up To Langlauf

Brett Miller of Bend, Ore., and Debbie Bauer of Spokane were light years ahead of their competition Saturday in the Intergalactic Hyperski freestyle cross country ski races at Mount Spokane.

Miller skated the 15-kilometer men’s course in 43:27 to win the male 17-18-year-old category as well as overall honors. Bauer skied the women’s 10K in 31:24.

About 135 skiers participated in the Hyperski, which debuted this year as a freestyle event to complement the Spokane Langlauf classic 10K race. About 400 skiers are registered for the Langlauf, which begins today at 11 a.m.

Jesse Oldham’s third-period goal gave Castlegar the lead and a Kevin MacGillvray empty-net goal with 8 seconds left resulted in the final margin in a 5-3 KIJHL win at home over Spokane.

Derek Ames, Sam Chimenti and Tyler Herron scored goals and Brian Power had 49 saves for the Braves.
