`Gump’ A Strong Contender For People’s Choice Award

Lisa De Moraes The Hollywood Reporter

“Forrest Gump” is nominated for favorite motion picture, favorite dramatic motion picture and favorite comedy motion picture in this year’s People’s Choice Awards nominations.

Meanwhile, this season’s two new medical TV dramas, CBS’ “Chicago Hope” and NBC’s “ER,” are both nominated for favorite new television dramatic series, while “ER” also is nominated for favorite television dramatic series, but “Chicago Hope” is not.

Tim Allen is also double-dipping, nominated for favorite male television performer for his “Home Improvement” starring role, as well as for favorite actor in a comedy motion picture for his “The Santa Clause” starring role.

“Forrest Gump” is in bed with “The Lion King” and “The Santa Clause” in the favorite film race.

In the comedy motion picture category, “Gump” goes against “Dumb and Dumber” and “The Santa Clause,” and for favorite dramatic motion picture, “Gump” races against “Interview With the Vampire” and “Speed.”

Allen will square off against “Gump’s” Tom Hanks as well as “Dumb’s” Jim Carrey for favorite actor in a comedy film.

Winners in each category will be announced at “The 21st Annual People’s Choice Awards” telecast on Sunday, March 5, on CBS. Nominations are gathered from a nationwide poll conducted by the Gallup Organization.
