At Pomona, Calif, Eddie Hill won a title at the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona Raceway.
Hill, from Wichita Falls, Texas, defeated Scott Kalitta in the Top Fuel final. Hill produced a pass of 4.859 seconds (299.50 mph). Hill, 58, is the oldest driver to win an NHRA national event.
Davey Hamilton of Boise, Idaho, got a record-tying fourth supermodified victory in the $385,000 Copper World Classic at Phoenix International Raceway at Phoenix. Hamilton collected $12,000.
