Jamaicans Celebrate Marley’s 50th Birthday

Compiled From Wire Services

It’s Bob Marley Day.

The 50th anniversary today of the birth of Jamaica’s most famous son will be officially celebrated in the reggae superstar’s homeland, Governor General Howard Cooke announced.

Since Marley’s death of cancer in May 1981 at age 36, the music world and Rastafarian community have celebrated his birthday anniversary.

But this year, the government will issue four special stamps bearing a picture of Marley and a commemorative coin.

The highlight of events today will be a concert at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston.
