Is Reno On A Roll?

Associated Press

The high rollers are betting on bowling.

Gov. Bob Miller, Mayor Pete Sferrazza and Sen. Richard Bryan joined a virtual who’s who of northern Nevadans in sending the pins flying on 78 lanes to formally dedicate the National Bowling Center, the city’s first major new tourist attraction in a decade.

“This is the greatest bowling facility in the entire world,” Sferrazza said.

The $46 million stadium, which features an 80 foot likeness of a bowling ball on its roof, is expected to attract more than 100,000 bowlers annually to an area which has seen tourism remain flat while Las Vegas thrives with megaresorts like the MGM Grand and Luxor.
