Columbia Tops Springdale In Ot

A/B girls basketball

Josslinn Skidmore scored 31 Tuesday - including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime - as Columbia (15-6) defeated visiting Springdale, 64-62 in overtime, to avoid an opening-game upset in the Panorama League Tournament.

Columbia’s Bobbi MacMillan got her only points on a rebound basket at the buzzer in OT.

Skidmore had 12 rebounds and scored 13 in the fourth quarter. Her sister Tanna, Columbia’s leading scorer, fouled out in the fourth quarter. Cindy Cates of Springdale (5-16) scored 23.

The tournament moves to Kettle Falls on Saturday. Columbia, the top seed from the North Division, plays Northwest Christian for a berth in the championship game. Springdale, No. 4 from the South, plays a loser-out game against Wellpinit.

The Dragons play Inchelium on Saturday for a berth in the title game. Curlew meets Selkirk in a loser-out game.

Deer Park must defeat Kettle Falls on Friday to advance to the District 7-A Tournament. Chewelah will open the tourney, Feb. 17 at Mead High, in a loser-out game against Newport.

At Endicott, Dawn Wallace and Tammy Dudley scored four points apiece in the final 3-1/2 minutes and the Wildcats (12-7) defeated the Nighthawks (13-8) by scoring the final 10 points.

Colton had a 12-point lead midway through the third quarter, but the Nighthawks came back on 3-pointers.

Colton plays Garfield-Palouse on Friday for a chance to meet St. John-Endicott in the championship game. T-O plays a loser-out game on Saturday against Friday’s winner between Rosalia and LaCrosse-Washtucna.
