At a glance: Chiefs enter the post-Bryan McCabe era with a new captain (Sawyer) and fresh legs. Off since Jan. 30, the Chiefs are re-tooling after trading McCabe to Brandon for future considerations and defenseman Adam Magarrell, who makes his local debut. Magarrell should help the penalty-killing unit and stabilize the back end, but McCabe’s scoring touch will be missed by a team with 18 one-goal losses. Whitfield will probably drop back to McCabe’s old slot on the power play. Portland is another team in transition, although Roland is a familiar thorn. The Winter Hawks veteran has appeared in 302 games, a Portland record. Roland took a 10-game scoring streak into Portland’s Tuesday nighter at Tri-City. Langkow is not letting much get by him. The goalie beat Seattle earlier in the Hawks road trip with 46 saves. He had 41 stops in a 4-2 loss in Kamloops, where Portland managed only 13 shots, an all-time club low.
