Mail Bomber Pleads Guilty

One of two men accused of killing five people in a mail bombing spree in 1993 pleaded guilty Wednesday in exchange for 20 years at a minimumsecurity prison.

Earl Figley also agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in their case against his alleged accomplice, Michael Stevens.

Officials say Stevens was seeking vengeance against the family of his girlfriend, Brenda Lazore Chevere, because he thought her family was trying to turn her against him.

She wasn’t harmed, but her mother, stepfather and sister were killed within 90 minutes on Dec. 28, 1993, along with her sister’s boyfriend and a co-worker of her stepfather.
