Counties Need To Map Reservation Roads

A bill introduced Thursday in the Senate Transportation Committee would require counties to map and keep track of the condition of roads on Indian reservations.

The bill from Sen. Ralph “Moon” Wheeler, R-American Falls, requires county commissioners to include all roadways on reservations in maps of county-maintained road systems.

The bill does not require the county to assume responsibility for the maintenance of those roads. The committee approved the bill for introduction and will hold hearings later in the session.
