Fire Destroys Trailer While Family Gone

From Staff Reports

A trailer that a Spokane Valley family had just moved into was destroyed by fire Friday morning.

No one was injured in the blaze that began about 8:40 a.m. at N1722 Cavalier.

The residents, Robert and Christina Messner and their three children, were not home. Firefighters had to break in to reach the fire, said Dave Lobdell, assistant chief of Valley Fire.

The Messner family is staying with relatives.

“It’s close to a total loss,” said inspector Kevin Miller. The fire started accidentally and appears to be electrical, said Miller, who is still investigating.

The fire consumed a back bedroom where the family had piled most of their belongings while moving.
