Legislative Action

Here is a look at action Friday in the Washington Legislature:

Governor:

No major action.

Senate:

Approved on a 28-20 vote and sent to the House SB5325, which would tie higher education tuition increases to the statewide per capita income.

The Education Committee approved and sent to the full Senate SB5440, which would require that students carrying a firearm to school be expelled for at least one year.

Bill introduced:

SJR8215, to amend the constitution to provide for a simple majority of voters voting to authorize school district levies. Current constitutional provisions require a 60 percent majority vote for approval.

House:

The Financial Institutions Committee approved and sent to the full House HB1548, which would require the state auditor to conduct a performance audit of the State Investment Board.

Bill introduced:

HB1817, to delete 1995 cigarette and liquor tax increases allocable to the health services account.
