A TWA crew smelled smoke in the cockpit of a plane with 129 people aboard, including the University of Washington women’s track team, and made an unscheduled landing safely in Omaha, Neb., officials said.

TWA Flight 142 landed shortly after reporting smoke in the cockpit, said Lyle Shephard, manager of the Eppley Airfield tower. But a TWA spokesman in St. Louis said there was no smoke or fire on the plane, just the odor of smoke.

No one was injured.
