Teenager Arrested For Brandishing Gun

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Friday after displaying a loaded handgun outside Shaw Middle School, Spokane police said.

The youth was arrested on a charge of possessing a firearm on school grounds, which is a gross misdemeanor. He was taken to the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.

A school official reported seeing the youth, who is not a Shaw student, with a large crowd of teens about 3:20 p.m. Friday, Spokane police Detective Brian Schwarz said.

By the time officers arrived, some of the youths were inside a nearby home, Schwarz said.

A woman at the home allowed police to search it. Officers found the loaded 9mm Ruger in a bedroom heat vent.
