Technical fouls against Oklahoma fueled rallies in each half for No. 2 Kansas as the Jayhawks beat the Sooners 93-76 Saturday at Lawrence, Kan.

The Jayhawks (7-2 Big Eight, 18-3) had five players in double figures. Seven-footer Greg Ostertag led the way with 17 points.

The Sooners dropped to 4-4, 17-6.

A technical on Oklahoma center James Mayden with 7 minutes left in the first half led to a 10-0 run by the Jayhawks that produced a 37-24 lead with 5:50 to play.

“I thought there was a big momentum change with that first technical,” Sooners coach Kelvin Sampson said. “I don’t question his effort, I question his judgment.

“The biggest problem for a team like ours is I’ve got a 6-4 post guy that’s battling a guy a foot taller than him. We’re deficient in areas, but we’re not deficient in heart. Their areas of strength are our areas of weakness and they took advantage of it today.”

Hoiberg got the Cyclones (4-5 Big Eight, 18-6) a 67-67 tie with his second basket of the overtime session, a 3-pointer from well beyond the line, then fed Julius Michalik under the basket as Iowa State took the lead for good, 69-67, with 31.6 seconds remaining. The Huskers fell to 3-5, 16-7.

Auburn 70, (21) Mississippi St. 69
