Rutgers Students Continue Fight

Associated Press

Rutgers University students say they’ll continue demanding the resignation of the school president over his racially insensitive remarks, despite a Board of Governors decision to support him.

The board is “ultimately accountable to the students, and we will force them to be if they are not,” student Euloiza Jorge said Saturday.

Despite protests, the board voted unanimously Friday to keep Francis L. Lawrence on as president. However, it condemned his comments regarding genetics and test scores.

Jorge, a leader of the United Students Coalition, which organized the protests, said students hadn’t yet decided on their next move. The protests included a sit-in Tuesday at a Rutgers men’s basketball game that forced the game to be postponed.
