Imprisoned Ex-Cop Soliciting Funds

Compiled From Wire Services

Ex-police officer Stacey Koon, imprisoned for beating Rodney King, has raised between $1 million and $4.7 million in a direct-mail campaign.

The money goes to pay Koon’s legal bills and support his wife and five children.

“Remember, just $20 will be a big help, especially to my family,” Koon writes in a letter appealing for donations. “If you believe in justice, please help today.”

The letter also asks for notes of sympathy written to Koon’s wife, Mary, and states that Koon is the “political scapegoat of radicals and self-serving liberal politicians who know that I am innocent.”
