Nelson Is Out

The Don Nelson era with the Warriors has ended.

The Warriors will announce today that Nelson is stepping down as coach and general manager, which would end a 7-year reign as general manager and a 6-year tenure as head coach of the team. Donnie Nelson, his son and top assistant, also will resign, according to a source, and assistant coach Bob Lanier will be named the interim coach. The GM position, for the moment, will remain vacant.

Lanier served as a special assistant with the Warriors during training camp last season and was then hired last summer as a full-time assistant.
