Post Falls Claims Iel Title

Saturday boys

Post Falls buried 11 of 12 from the freethrow line in the fourth quarter to shoot down Lewiston 56-52 and capture the Inland Empire championship at Lewiston.

Darick Pope made 1 of 2 free throws with 18 seconds left to ice the game.

Ryan Baerlocher missed a chance to tie the game with 22 seconds left. He he was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer, but missed all 3 free throws.

Post Falls’ opponent in Thursday’s first round of the A-1 Region I playoffs will be determined Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., when Sandpoint visits Coeur d’Alene in a loserout game.

In the other opening-round game, Lewiston will play at Lake City, also at 7:30. The winners of the first-round games advance to the regional championship on Saturday at Post Falls.

The Wildcats (7-1, 15-3) took the lead, 53-52, for first time with 2 minutes left on a free throw by Chris Nielsen and held on to steal a win over the Bears.

Nielsen hit a field goal and Travis Fulton followed with a couple of free throws to seal the win.

Jason Keep had 18 points and 18 rebounds to keep the Bears (3-5, 8-10) close despite committing 31 turnovers.

Fulton scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half to lead the comeback.

Deary scored the last five points to come from behind to upend the Warriors at Kootenai.

Jon Chatfield, who had 24 points, hit a basket and Solon Carlson hit two free throws to force a second overtime.

Ryan Holden’s 3 with 4 seconds left sent it into the first overtime.
