Broncos Go Big Time

Compiled From Wire Services

Boise State University, which is moving up to a new level of football competition in 1996, will play Hawaii, Arizona State and UCLA in future non-conference games.

Boise State will travel to Honolulu to play the Rainbows on Sept. 21. On Oct. 5, the Broncos will travel to Tempe to meet Arizona State of the Pac-10 Conference. The Broncos will play UCLA in 1999.

Phil Elmassian, the defensive coordinator and defensive secondary coach at Virginia Tech the last two seasons, has been selected as the secondary coach for the Washington Huskies to replace Chris Tormey. Tormey left for the Idaho head coaching job.

Major college football coaches are backing a study that could lead to a tiebreaker in regular-season games starting with the 1996 season. The college version would give each team a chance to score after regulation.
