Declining Log Exports Make Port Scramble

From Staff And Wire Reports

Hit hard by the loss of log exports, the Port of Grays Harbor is trying to get more variety of cargo.

Thanks to shipments such as aluminum from Russia, total cargo tonnage is likely to increase slightly this year, operations director Leonard Barnes said.

“We’ve been down because of the log exports, but we feel now we’re heading in the right direction,” Barnes said.

Non-maritime business attracted by the Port of Grays Harbor includes a piano manufacturer and a synthetic shake maker.
