Hilty-Jones Rallies Gar-Pal To Whitman Boys Title

When the going got tough, Beau Hilty-Jones got going for Garfield-Palouse Monday night at Endicott.

He scored the last four points of regulation and the first five of overtime to spark Gar-Pal to a 72-63 victory over LaCrosse-Washtucna in the championship game of the Whitman County League boys basketball tournament.

With it goes the No. 1 seed into the Southeast District Tournament next Monday in Pullman. L-W is No. 2

Colton earned the No. 3 seed with a come-from-behind 66-61 win over St. John-Endicott.

Hilty-Jones, who finished with 28 points, took over with the Tigercats leading 59-55 with 30 seconds to go in regulation. He had eight of his points in the fourth quarter and eight more in OT.

Cory Goll scored 11 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as LW overcame a seven-point deficit to make a game of it.

The Wildats had to overcome an 11-point deficit. Ryan Wallace keyed the final charge with 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter. Terry Busch added 17 and Ryan BeLieu 16.

Justin Roths had 24 and Zach Hergert 16 to lead the Eagles.

The Nighthawks earned the league’s No. 3 seed to the Southeast District Tournament beginning Thursday in Walla Walla while eliminating the Wildcats.

Stephanie Crider’s 3-pointer with 16 seconds left was the winning margin and Jennifer Hay added two free throws for the final margin as the Nighthawks overcame the stubborn Wildcats.

Brandi Peringer led Tekoa-Oakesdale with 16 points. Emma Giden’s 12 led Colton.

Nettie Heytbelt nailed a field goal from the top of the key as the shot clock was expiring with 2 seconds left in the game as Pomeroy overcame DeSales 42-40 to earn the Blue Mountain League playoff title and top seeding to the SEB tournament. DeSales will go as No. 2.

Asotin overcame a 10-point deficit to beat Dayton 69-66 and claim the No. 3 seed. Dayton goes as No. 4.

Waitsburg is No. 5.

Lakeside 57, Colfax 46 Lakeside will play Riverside at Deer Park tonight to determine the league’s 1-2 seeding to district next week after getting past Colfax on Saturday night.

Colfax will be the No. 3 seed when district play begins at Mead High School on Friday. Riverside had won a coin flip for a bye Saturday when the three-team playoff began to determine top seeding.

Stephanie Guenther had 14 points and as many rebounds and Carrie Waddell 13 points and eight assists to lead Lakeside. Freshman Lora Jolley had 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Brooke Hansen led Colfax with 19 points.
