A Woman’s Revenge

Here’s some revenge for girls who watch their brothers scarf down three hamburgers for lunch yet never gain a pound: Guys get acne worse than girls do.

Doctors say acne occurs in 80 percent of girls and 90 percent of boys during adolescence. It may begin earlier in girls and last longer, but boys tend to have more severe cases.

Some good news: It’s a myth that foods like chocolate and greasy French fries cause acne. Nor is the cause due to dirt or poor hygiene. It’s triggered by hormones, which surge during puberty and cause the oil glands of the skin to enlarge.

But there is something you can do about severe acne. Accutane, developed over the last two decades, is available from doctors.
