Shadle Park’s Free-Throw Skills Are Too Much For University

GSL girls

Shadle Park kept its hopes alive for a share of the Greater Spokane League girls basketball title Tuesday night with its 54-48 win over University.

The No. 5 Highlanders enjoyed a fivepoint lead after one quarter but never were able to pull away. Shadle Park hit all nine free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter, including five by Kelly Bartleson, who finished with 16 points.

Shadle Park took advantage of Bartleson’s quickness, moving her from wing back to her usual point in the fourth quarter.

The Titans cut the lead to two points with 2 1/2 minutes left. However, Bartleson drove through the key and was fouled and hit a shot for the three-point play. University never threatened from then on.

University’s Stephanie Shelton had four 3-pointers, leading the Titans with 12 points. JoEne Heimbigner countered with three 3-pointers and a career-high 11 points.

Shawna Rainer had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Highlanders. Sydney Perno had nine rebounds for U-Hi.
