Man Arrested After Robbery

From Staff And Wire Reports

FOR THE RECORD: (March 4, 1995): Steven Tofte, 35, was arrested for first-degree robbery behind a house at E1324 Central on Feb. 15. The Spokane Police Department provided the wrong address in a Feb. 16 story.

Spokane police arrested a 35-year-old man Wednesday after a North Side gas station was robbed.

Steven Tofte, E1524 Central, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a first-degree robbery charge.

Police said a man approached the clerk at the Exxon convenience store at Francis and Nevada shortly after midnight and pulled his coat back to reveal a handgun in his belt.

He demanded money and walked out of the store with the cash. Police wouldn’t say how much money was taken.

Sgt. Judi Carl responded to the robbery call and spotted a man who matched the suspect’s description near Central and Perry. He ran when police tried to stop him.

Officers Bill Marshall and Steven McHugill found Tofte in the back yard of the East Central address. Tofte also listed N8400 Dakota as a home address. Police took him into custody after a brief struggle.

Officer Craig Bulkley and his police dog, King, found a handgun and some cash at the scene.

Tofte remained in jail late Wednesday.
