Bill Parcells could try another blitzkrieg early Friday, opening day in the NFL’s annual free-agency period.

There have been unsubstantiated reports of a Dave Meggett sighting at the Patriots’ offices, a circumstance that Parcells and Meggett’s representatives denied for an obvious reason. If Parcells or any Patriots official was meeting with the New York Giants’ explosive running back before the free-agency period, it would be tampering.

Steffi Graf, having recently lost her No. 1 ranking, returned from a three-month layoff with an easy victory at the Paris Open. Graf routed Russia’s Yelena Makarova 6-2, 6-1 in 45 minutes.
