Among findings from study on pacemakers:

Patients in the western United States were 19 percent more likely to receive dual-chamber pacemakers.

Black patients were marginally less likely than whites to receive a dual-chamber pacemaker.

More than 70 percent of singlechamber pacemakers are implanted in patients 70 years old or older.

Patients eligible for Medicaid were 25 percent less likely to receive dual-chamber device.

Patients at private, large or urban hospitals were more likely to receive dual-chamber device.
