The Cougars (6-5 in the Pac-10 and 11-8 overall) will be looking for only their second road win of the year when they invade Gill Coliseum for a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Beavers (2-9 and 6-13).
At a glance
This is a game WSU should win. The matchups favor the Cougars, even though OSU boasts two of the league’s top scorers in Brent Barry and Mustapha Hoff. And for one of the few times this season, the Cougars have everybody healthy. Still, there are several reasons for concern on the part of WSU coach Kevin Eastman - not the least of which is his team’s miserable 1-6 road record. In addition, the Beavers came within a whisker of upsetting the Cougars at home earlier in the year when Stephane Brown’s 3-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the rim and let WSU escape 77-75. The Cougars are coming off a home split against the Los Angeles schools and, in Eastman’s opinion, need at least three more wins to play themselves into the postseason tournament picture. WSU: Mark Hendrickson 14.3 points per game, 9.2 rebounds; Isaac Fontaine, 18.1 ppg; Shamon Antrum, 13.1 ppg; Donminic Ellison, 7.2 assists. OSU: Brent Barry, 20.6 ppg; Mustapha Hoff, 19.6 ppg, 7.7 rpg; Stephane Brown, 12.3 ppg, 3.5 apg.
